- Recirculation priming – These pumps use check valves in between the suction line and the discharge port. When the air is accumulated in the suction passage, the liquid from the discharge reservoir is re-circulated back in the suction passage which takes out a few bubbles of the air along it. This helps in exhausting the air from suction passage, facilitates the liquid to fill in the suction line and the check valve gets closed.
- Diffuser priming – In diffuser priming pumps, check valve is not used and hence it avoids all the problems seen in recirculation priming pumps. These pumps are widely used in the industries. The liquid in the discharge reservoir is not allowed to return back but it combines with the air present at the borders of the impellers.
